“Great Product - Awesome Support - Satisfied Customer”
What do you like best about GeoHECRAS?

GeoHECRAS is a great software tool for modeling simple or advanced hydraulic models. I'm a satisfied customer and have used the product for many years. I'm always able to get the job done faster than I could before. The support is top-notch. The support people are especially helpful in helping you resolve any issues in the model or with the software itself.

Now after using the software for several years, I am even more pleased. The continued support is amazing. The support team at Civilgeo has really gone above and beyond the norm. You certainly are not alone when completing simple or complicated modeling projects.

The list of features continues to grow each year. Features and tools that cannot be found anywhere else. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GeoHECRAS?

The software works slightly slower on PC's than HECRAS itself, but the difference is negligible. It offers so many other powerful and useful features which make up for this. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is GeoHECRAS solving and how is that benefiting you?

I'm currently using the software for a CLOMR and LOMR Fema submittal for a large construction project. And each year, I continue to use the software for various floodplain projects. GeoHECRAS and Civilgeo is always there to help me every step of the way. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“This software provides advanced modeling capabilities for complex projects”
What do you like best about NX CAD?

The main advantage that I found in NX CAD is the modeling advanced tools that support me to produce close to reality and intricate shapes with the right level of detail. This one does not shrink even when dealing with large assemblies, a feature that is very desirable on complicated tasks. Furthermore, it is fully compatible with our PLM system so there are no problems for example with redesigning to manufacturing, all the teams work on the same page. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about NX CAD?

However, NX CAD has its drawbacks - the program is not quite friendly for new employees, which means that the process of their training may take a lot of time. This can further drop the potential for coming up with strategies for improvisation that help the team to speed up on projects. Additionally, the resource requirement stands high and when used in a system, conflicts with available hardware and therefore there are cases of hanging a bit often. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is NX CAD solving and how is that benefiting you?

Due to its features, NX CAD allows addressing the task of effective cooperation within large design processes, enabling accurate modeling and making adjustments in processes and patterns. This has to the benefit of our work by expanding our capacity to execute bigger projects and to guarantee that our designs are realizable as well as precise. It also reduce mistakes during the designing phase, thus eliminating the possible wastage of a lot of time and resources. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“Versatile and Essential Tool for 3D Design”
What do you like best about SketchUp?

One of the standout aspects of SketchUp is its versatility. Whether I’m designing architectural models, creating interior layouts, or visualizing landscaping projects, SketchUp allows me to bring my ideas to life quickly and accurately. The program’s vast library of pre-made components and textures also speeds up the design process and enhances creativity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SketchUp?

While SketchUp excels in many areas, there are a few drawbacks, especially when it comes to 3D printing. The software isn’t specifically designed for creating models intended for 3D printing, which can lead to issues like non-manifold geometry, overlapping faces, or gaps in the model. These issues often require additional time for troubleshooting and fixing before a model is ready for printing.

Additionally, the precision tools in SketchUp, while sufficient for many design tasks, can sometimes feel limiting when exact measurements and tolerances are critical for 3D printing. This can result in models that don’t print as intended without further refinement in more specialized 3D printing software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SketchUp solving and how is that benefiting you?

SketchUp solves several key problems in the design process, particularly in visualization and communication. One of the biggest challenges in architecture and design is translating complex ideas into clear, visual representations that clients and collaborators can easily understand. SketchUp’s intuitive interface and powerful modeling tools allow me to quickly create detailed 3D models, making it easier to convey design concepts and explore different options in real time. “ZWCAD user review/experience”
What do you like best about ZWCAD?

The first thing to note is that ZWCAD loads and works quick compared to other CAD packages. The feel is very simillar to other well know CAD software and it takes very little time to adapt to ZW Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ZWCAD?

Only a "cosmetic" dislike, icons not just as crisp as they could be. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is ZWCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?

The main reason for moving to ZWCAD was on cost, but have to say I wish we had found this earlier. So number 1 is that there has been a big cost saving with no detriment to functionality.

We are very profficient in CAD so the switch to ZWCAD was not for a specific feature but have found that ZWCAD is very stable and (fingers crossed) have not a single crash since using ZW. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“Excellent software that really speeds up efficiency”
What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?

I really like the built-in functions such as automated curve number calculations and watershed and sub-basin delineation. In the past these would take hours to compile all the data. Now it can be done in one click of a button - the data is already pre-loaded into the software. Time of concentration calculations are also so much faster to complete. It's really easy to break off different segments and assign different flow types as well as land use. Another huge benefit is PMO/PMF analysis. No more looking at HMR 51/52 tables. Click the centroid of your watershed and the depth/duration tables will be loaded for you. I find the software user friendly and pretty easy to pick up, especially if you 've already used other hydrologic software. You can also directly export the project to HEC-HMS.

I use this software now for basically every project that requires a hydrologic input. There's almost no reason to start a project from HEC-HMS directly when there are so many tools built into GeoHEC-HMS. Also, the customer support is 10/10. Anytime I have had an issue, there has been a tech ready and willing to help walk me through any troubleshooting, even if it's not directly related to the software. They are super knowledgeable about modeling as well and are willing to offer different approaches based on your specific location and modeling needs. They will always follow up with you as well to make sure that the software is working as intended and are willing to incorporate suggestions you have to make the program even better for the user. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?

There are a few small bugs with the software that are not deal-breakers (I still really like the software and will continue to use it), but the issue is that if someone who doens't know hydroogy well is using the program, they may think the model is running fine when in reality it isn't. For example, I have noticed with Curve Numbers that the program defualts to 25% impervious area. If you have already accounted for IA in your CN you need to make this 0%. Then when you export to HEC-HMS the 25% is back in the model again. If you aren't aware of this or aren't paying close attention, this would be easy to overlook. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?

Watershed delineation and assigning hydrologic parameters for different flow events. PMP/PMF analysis. I can get models up and running in record time with the awesome built in functions that GeoHMS provides. It's a very functional and powerful software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“Easy to use CAD”
What do you like best about Onshape?

One of the best things is that you are always using the most up-to-date version. You never need to install a new version. Everyone is using the same version globally.

Being able to colaborate over distance is a major plus as I work remotely but can still work on things that the people in the shop are looking at and referencing.

Customer support is A+! I have used other CAD systems that wanted to charge me hourly tech support to solve issues with the program. Onshape is very quick to respond to any emails sent and either show what I've missed or offer a solution to the problem. Also, several of the things that I have mentioned as 'nice to have' features have been implemented in updates so it is very encouraging to have the product growing in response to user feedback. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Onshape?

There are still some things that Onshape doesn't have that other CAD programs have had but every program seems to have something that others don't and it appears to just be a matter of time before Onshape will have added all the shortcuts that I was used to in other programs.

The Android version of Onshape is a bit underwelming but the fact that I can show things on my phone is pretty great! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Inventor?

Inventor is my go-to tool for machine design; From design accelators, frame generators and analysis, to design automation with ilogic features , and dynamic event simulation with a powerful solver etc.

Inventor's featuers are very mature in terms of capacity, and can handle data of so many kinds e.g it BOM, driving configuration with parameter etc.

Inventor also integrates perfectly with PDM tools like Autodesk Vault for administrative purposes, design data managment, file control, to mention a few.

Many other solutions can be integarted with inventor, making it possible to author, validate, fabricate and test your design e.g Inventor Nastran, Inventor Nesting, Factory design utilities, etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Inventor?

You need to master how planes work, if you intend to asemble your parts and components easily, simulating real world relationship between the parts via the asssembly enviroment.

You need to fully understand assembly modeling especially if you are working on a large project with over a thousand part. etc

You need to understand the file structuring and basic file handling within inventor, else you would run into constant erros trying to reuse or locate design files. Sometimes the errors can cost you the clients trust if not managed properly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Inventor solving and how is that benefiting you?

The ilogic feature in inventor basically hands me the power to automate my design, create variations and initaite design configurationns in a controlled manner. This leads to my ability to meet clients need in the shortest possible time.

Adopting Inventor for my product design workflow makes the entire experince smooth. I am giving the ability to implement and insert fastners, mechanical weldments, belt and chain drives, mechanical frames an others, through calculated, and analysis-based processes, thus making informed design decisions.

Basically, an ADMS console is required to set up a server, then an Autodesk vault client is set up for authoring of design data into the sever, via dedicated file structures. All i did was to link Inventor to my Autodesk vault, then all my designs from inventor was easily checked in and out of the vault, ensuring proper design documentation , control, and secuirty, to mention a few. “Unparalleled Customer Service by the CEO himself!”
What do you like best about SmartDraw?

Before I say anything...I must say that I have never had any of my professional tools or apps', customer service respond over a holiday weekend. Specially, since the customer service representative was the CEO of the company! Steve Peterson, is an example for any company and any customer service rep., he is TOP NOTCH in my book. And, he resolved the problem within minutes.

Now, a review.

One of the things I personally like best about smartdraw, is the ease of use. In comparasion to the typical visio or lucidchart , which I have used in my career, smartdraw, is very easy to use. In addition, it can be utilized across many types of drawings and sectors. "There is a time and place for everything". Smartdraw is my immediate "go-to" for conceptualizing, as well as for creating a quick and easy render of a though process. For me, for years, it has been very useful.

I recommend smartdraw to everyone form beginners to professionals.

Here are some of the pros of using SmartDraw:

Pros:

Wide Range of Templates: SmartDraw offers a vast library of templates and examples which can be easily customized. This includes flowcharts, organizational charts, network diagrams, and more, making it versatile for various needs.

Intuitive Interface: The tool is designed to be user-friendly, with an intuitive drag-and-drop interface that makes it accessible even for those without a technical background.

Integration Capabilities: SmartDraw integrates with other tools such as Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and more, allowing users to export and share their diagrams easily across platforms.

Automatic Formatting: The software automatically adjusts and aligns shapes and texts, facilitating a professional look for diagrams without requiring extensive manual effort.

Availability: It is available both as a desktop application and online, offering flexibility depending on user preference or IT constraints. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SmartDraw?

I wish this question was not asked of me. Specially after leaving Steve an exemplorary stellar review on his SmartDraw apllication. However, it was asked, and candor is my middle name.

Cons are:

Cost: Compared to some other diagramming tools, SmartDraw can be relatively expensive, especially for small businesses or individual users.

Complexity for Advanced Features: While basic functions are easy to use, some advanced features may require a steeper learning curve or might be less intuitive.

Limited Customization in Some Areas: While SmartDraw is highly flexible, certain elements might not be as customizable as with some specialized software, which could be a limitation for users with very specific needs.

Proprietary File Format: The native file format is proprietary, which might limit sharing and compatibility with users who do not use SmartDraw. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SmartDraw solving and how is that benefiting you?

SmartDraw is primarily solving the problem of visual communication and project planning in my workflow. By allowing me to quickly and effectively create detailed diagrams, flowcharts, and other visual representations, it enhances my ability to convey complex information clearly and efficiently.

Key benefits for me include:

Efficiency: SmartDraw's extensive range of templates and the intuitive drag-and-drop interface save me significant time in creating visuals. This is particularly useful when I need to draft diagrams quickly for presentations or reports.

Clarity in Communication: With SmartDraw, I can produce clear and professional diagrams that are easily understandable by my team and clients. This clarity is crucial for ensuring that complex ideas are well-received and correctly interpreted.

Integration: The ability to seamlessly integrate with other tools I regularly use, like Microsoft Office, streamlines my workflow. This means I can incorporate diagrams into documents and presentations without compatibility issues, enhancing my productivity.

Consistency: The automatic formatting features ensure that all my visuals maintain a consistent, professional look and feel, which reflects well on my company and me when presenting work to stakeholders.

Overall, SmartDraw serves as my go-to tool for graphical representation because it addresses these specific needs effectively, making my day-to-day tasks smoother and allowing me to focus more on content rather than on creating visuals from scratch. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“Excellent Beginner Experience”
What do you like best about Altium Designer?

It offers a wide range of tools for PCB design, simulation, and verification in a single platform. Also, it has an user-friendly interface with customizable workspaces that streamline the design process. Personally I like that it has an excellent integration with mechanical CAD tools, particularly SolidWorks, for ECAD-MCAD collaboration. Lastly, it is used in a wide variety of industries, which gives its users a high value in multiple industry domains. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altium Designer?

Being a specialized software, Altium Designer can be complex and feature-rich, which may overwhelm beginners. Additionally, more complex designs require significant system resources, potentially leading to performance issues on less powerful machines. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Altium Designer solving and how is that benefiting you?

Altium Designer's integration with Molded Interconnect Devices (MID) technology enables me to create 3D circuit carriers that combine mechanical and electronic functions in a single component. Although integrating mechanical design and PCB can sometimes be time-consuming, this feature helps reduce both the time and complexity of production.

MID integration also breaks the constraints of traditional 2D PCB design, allowing greater flexibility in component placement and routing, even though it is still a niche technology.

Regarding the PCB design process, the schematic capture with hierarchical design capabilities helps me organize and manage complex or modular designs much more effectively. Without these capabilities, such designs would otherwise be a headache to work with.

When working on complex projects, it can be easy to overlook design rules necessary for correct PCB manufacturing. The automation of this process with Design Rule Checking (DRC) ensures that the PCB complies with manufacturing standards, avoiding costly mistakes in the production stage. “Complex Product Design Made Easy”
What do you like best about Autodesk Fusion?

The best quality of Autodesk Fusion 360 is its intuitive and user-friendly interface, combined with its powerful capabilities. From sketching designs to building various types of objects, and working seamlessly with meshes, surfaces, solids, and components, the software offers a smooth and comprehensive workflow.

When errors occur, the troubleshooting options—whether within the software or through online customer support—are excellent. I use Fusion 360 almost daily, and unexpected shutdowns are extremely rare.

A significant advantage is the integrated finite element analysis and rendering engine. This allows for the creation of professionally presented mockups of the final product while ensuring it will withstand the forces or temperatures it’s designed for. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Autodesk Fusion?

Two aspects of Autodesk Fusion 360 that I find less favorable are its dependency on an internet connection and its CAD file compatibility. While being a cloud-based software generally offers significant advantages, features like real-time collaboration and automatic saving can be challenging in areas with limited connectivity. Additionally, despite supporting many file formats, the conversion of files during export is often limited, resulting in the loss of details or geometries when importing to other softwares. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Autodesk Fusion solving and how is that benefiting you?

The design workflow for preparing objects for 3D printing in Fusion 360 offers numerous benefits. The ability to directly export models to 3D printing software like Ultimaker Cura or Formlabs reduces the need for multiple tools, creating a seamless workflow. The mesh editing and repair tools for STL and OBJ files are especially useful when working with scanned objects or imported medical image files, as they help identify and fix common issues like holes, non-manifold edges, and intersecting faces.

As a cloud-based software, Fusion 360 allows me to access CAD files from anywhere and on any device, improving collaboration with clients and stakeholders who might not have the software installed on their devices.

The cloud-based computation for simulation tools, such as finite element analysis and static or thermal stress tests, frees up my local computing resources. As an individual designer, it gives me access to advanced analyses that would otherwise require significant computational power.

Finally, in Mechanical Computer-Aided Design, the ability to use both parametric and direct modeling is a great feature. It allows me to easily make changes and adapt designs before fully constraining a mechanical model. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
