Navigating isn't the easiest. Config is feature packed. Security is so tight you would love to hate it.

But better secure than insecure.

One small drawback might be the backup size that Veeam creates. They are so massive that you might have to upgrade your datastore just to accomodate the backups.

The UI of Avepoint Cloud Backup is pretty old-looking and not at all easy-to-use for non-tech persons. Moreover, for each document, it conducts a fresh security scan, which consumes a lot of time and processor memory. Their support team is not very active in answering queries and when the backup is restored or retrieved, the restored data is not always consistent with the original data (especially for CSV and Word documents). We had been using Avepoint Cloud Backup mostly for Web content and App content backup and maintaining backup copies of all internal analytical dashboards. We had been using our own keys to ensure data consistency and security. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Where do I start?

1. If you have a computer crash and you need to restore a full machine backup, you have to restore to an IDENTICAL computer, you cannot restore to a similar computer. That caused us to spend a week's worth of hours trying to recover a computer and a month's worth of calendar time.

2. The Active Backup is constantly failing to backup a Windows computer not being able to contact, because of VSS issues, or some other issues. We've followed all the docs on how to fix it and have had an ongoing tech support thread where they keep asking us to verify the same things and still it does not work. If we have not spend 80 hours of what would otherwise be billable time trying to resolve this then we haven't spend a minute on it. And with no end in sight.

3. They added a new software feature to protect against randsomeware attacts but one of my two NAS — the older one — they decided not to support, and through no hardware reason I can discerne other than as an incentive to buy a newer model.

4. On one of my devices it constantly stops backing up when the Let's Encrypt certificate times out. That means we can go days without backup before we realize.

5. What's worse, if Synology releases a new Active Backup agent it will stop backing up until we update it. We've gone a month without a backup because we did not realize this.

Simply put, if I had not already invested in Synology I would be looking for something else that is more reliable to backup and more reliable for restore. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

To manage the backup for Windows 7 or 10 is very good (backup and restore) but less for old systems (Win XP). The local client can't be updated by remote and we need to do that manually. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

So far their are not many downsides, however only during the trial of the product did we realise that we needed a fully licnesed (Standard) VM evnrionmet for the product to work. It will not work with any free licnese of VM ware as it requires access to the API (not sure if its avaialbe for the essentials).

Main problem was with hard drive raw and unallocated due to multiple formatting and that bring the nightmare of permanent data loss.

The hope was dying, but blr tools support team provided a live support to allocate the drive and suggested to use free version. Free trial recovered all data more than 430GB in size from nvme ssd drive. Our tech team has noticed that when there are updates to Crashplan, endpoint devices take longer than usual connecting, and will not connect until the update is complete, which makes it difficult when they are trying to re-sync data or install crashplan on a new device. Downsides? Well, I purchased a lifetime license. I understand it's for only one pc, after a non related crash and reset I ended up needing to create a new desktop, the old one no longer existed to be recovered. Fast forward a few months to a sd card that I accidentally erased and needed to recover for an urgent project and my license code didn't work. A brief email to support assured me I could reregister my new desktop at no charge provided I leave a good review first. While this is an absolutely amazing product, and support was fast with a response, I was already over stressed with the situation and ended up having to use a different program. I'm sure I got most of the things I needed but I know for a fact I was missing important media for that project. Guess that's life. Yet, still here I am, leaving a great review several weeks later now that I found the time, and trust me, I never leave reviews for anything. I just want to have the peace of mind with my favorite program back in my toolbox, and I'd do anything but pay for it again.
